VLC really can open all kinds of things… even malicious DLL files on Windows. I thought this was an interesting computing security read featuring a well-known open source tool unexpectedly in the center.
Also an interesting detail on where first access was made:
“There is evidence that some initial access to some of the breached networks was through a Microsoft Exchange server, indicating that the actor exploited a known vulnerability on unpatched machines.”
