Hi all, I read this fascinating article this morning on the IEEE Spectrum about bionic eyes and this long story about how the company behind them, and in turn the technology, became obsolete. The right to repair could not solve all the problems detailed in this post, but thinking about things like external video glasses and video processing units (VPUs) that people had to acquire by crowdsourcing parts from other users, I couldn’t help but think of the right to repair and conversations over the years in FOSS@RIT.
It’s a long read, but if you have some time, it is a really good one.
